Nigeria’s Ambassador to Japan, Gana Yisa, has come under serious attack for allegedly frustrating poverty reduction and foreign direct investment (FDI) into Nigeria under a programme championed by the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Ministry of Justice and a private firm, Igate Global Concept Limited. A set of documents obtained by The Guardian indicated that about 57 Nigerian government officials, including governors, permanent secretaries and directors-general, who were expected to be part of a delegation to Japan for study on poverty alleviation through employment in Japan, are currently stranded. The study mission, which is expected to hold in Tokyo between June 10 and 15, 2019, is frustrated. Another call was made to the ambassador followed by a text message about two hours later but was not responded to before this report was filed. While Nigeria is rated as the world poverty headquarters, some of the objectives of the study mission were to enhance the implementation of the National Employment Policy within the scope of the Nigeria Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (NERGP).
